Laser treatments

Laser treatment of stress urinary incontinence

If a person does not want or fit in TOT or TVT sling operations, new smooth laser treatments may be considered. Usually three treatments, one month between each, are performed. The treatment is painless ‘lunch time’ procedure. 80-90 % of the treated get rid of the problem or symptoms are relieved. The effect of the procedure lasts 1-2 years, and then it can be repeated.

Laser tightening of the vagina

The new soft or smooth laser techniques have given us the possibility of tightening the vaginal tissues non-surgically. The procedure is indicated if the patient has the symptoms and gynaecological findings of loose vagina, and the laxity- which are not too severe in nature.

The vulva is numbed with a cream and the treatment itself takes 20 minutes. The vaginal and vestibular tissues are heated with the laser, which immediately causes a 20-30 % shrinkage of the paravaginal connective tissue.  It is presumed that the vasculature will improve and the connective tissues amount will increase in several months after the procedure. In a routine protocol the procedure is repeated after 3-8 weeks. The result lasts for about 12-18 months, and it may repeated.

Laser treatment of Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM)

During and after the menopause the oestrogen levels become lower, which sometimes causes thinning of vaginal mucosa- leading to dryness, sometimes itching and burning sensation and vaginal bacterial or yeast infections. The most low cost treatment for this condition is a local oestrogen therapy. Sometimes the local oestrogen treatment does not bring relief or it is contraindicated for the patient, or sometimes is not followed through, due to the patient not remembering to use it. In this case laser may be used instead. The procedure is described in the paragraph above, and during the treatment of GSM the procedure is performed three times.

Laser and genital hyperpigmentation

The aging process and sometimes the excess of oestrogen production may cause the pigmentation of vulva. This may appear only in labia minor, but very often also in the labia major. This hyperpigmentation may be treated with superficial full-beam laser resurfacing.

Laser hair removal of pubic and genital areas

The Brazilian shaving/waxing is quite fashionable today. If one is tired with everyday shaving or painful and frequent visits to the cosmetologist, another more permanent solution is a laser hair removal. We have two lasers for this purpose, and our doctor or our cosmetologist will decide which laser to start with. The treatment is painless and lasts for about 15-30 minutes. Usually at least 4 treatments are required for the good results. Treatments occur with 4 to 6 weeks intervals.
